5 Reasons To Not Skip Breakfast

pexels-julian-jagtenberg-103124What did you have for breakfast this morning?

If you said nothing, this is the time to strongly consider breaking the habit of not breaking your fast. With the change of season approaching and a new school year underway, a healthy breakfast could mean the difference between a productive day or poor performance.

Nutrition is important for athletes as the weather cools down. If you’re making excuses for not eating breakfast–be it a time crunch or no appetite, and coffee alone doesn’t count as a meal–consider the disadvantages of skipping the first meal of the day.

Diabetic risks. A study conducted by Harvard University School of Public Health revealed that women who did not eat a proper breakfast before work were more likely to develop Type-2 diabetes than their counterparts. It was concluded that skipping this meal can have a profound effect on blood sugar.

Weight risks. Avoiding breakfast as a means of controlling food intake may have an adverse result. When you don’t eat in the morning, you may be more likely to crave something not so healthy come lunchtime. Or, you may end up eating more than you usually would if you had breakfast.

Headaches. When you skip breakfast, you deprive your body of nutrients. If you ever experience headaches or dizziness in the morning, it could be a sign of a glucose deficiency. Consider having something to eat in order to improve clarity and functionality at work.

Menstrual irregularities. A study conducted a decade ago suggested that skipping the first meal of the day could impact the menstrual cycle. Irregular and painful periods are two signs that you may wish to resume eating breakfast in the morning.

High acidity. Your body releases acid in the stomach to digest food. When you consume nothing for breakfast, the acid can build up and cause discomfort for you later in the day. This may result in heartburn, nausea, and stomach pain.
